As of this post it’s October 13. Less than 24 hours are left before domain name prices are going up by October 14.
In case you just passed by, the reason why prices are going up is because the authoritative Registries for .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz are raising theirs by tomorrow. There’s only one for each extension, which in turn has accredited registration companies (registrars) to handle that for them.
Registrars, for the most part, do what the Registries say. Given that, many are forced to boost their prices up.
I actually blogged about it before. Just click here to read more about it.
Some registrars have actually already raised their prices by now. Many users have taken advantage of it before that happened.
Unfortunately it seems some are experiencing problems, especially transferring. Already I found at least one entry about domain registrar PublicDomainRegistry (formerly DirectI) experiencing such.
If you’re among those who tried to act on this before the price increase but still got charged, contact your registrar right away. It’ll help if you’ve managed to capture screenshots indicating such and the date and time you made the order.
Bottom line: don’t delay! Act fast!
Edit: Egad, I forgot my blog domain itself is going to expire this year! Good thing I renewed it just now before the price goes up!
