ICANN Secures Contempt Order Against Registerfly

Files under Commentary, News | Posted by David

Just got this from ICANN’s blog:

http://blog.icann.org/?p=127

ICANN’s motion for civil contempt against RegisterFly has been granted by the court.

That means that ICANN is able, with the assistance of a law enforcement official, to enter RegisterFly’s premises and seize all its customers’ registration data, as well as gain access to RegisterFly’s books and records in order to carry out a full audit.

ICANN filed the contempt order on May 2. It was granted on May 9.

Today’s May 12 so we’ve yet to know what’s happened since then. Hopefully ICANN has managed to secure the domain registration data from Registerfly, but anything can happen from the time this whole thing began until now.

I’ll try to keep you posted based on whatever verifiable information I can find regarding this. Keep your fingers crossed.
