Given that .com domain prices are going up by October 1, some people might find it cost-effective to register, renew, or add more years to their domain registrations now and possibly save up. That might especially apply to those having lots of .coms and costs start adding up.
Various registrars allow people to register or renew a .com for less than $10 a year. Fortunately some of them even offer coupons to lower the price even a bit more.
For instance, NameCheap issues a new coupon code every month or so. The current one for new .com registrations and transfers is BACK2SCHOOL, supposedly good until end of September.
I haven’t been able to find one for renewals. Then again, I won’t be able to test it since I currently don’t have any domain names with NameCheap. (I let go of my last one with them…)
I don’t use Go Daddy for various reasons, but I know a lot of people do anyway. If you’re still with them, you might as well take advantage of some of their coupons.

All codes above are good until end of September. I read of another called TEST99 where you supposedly get a new .com for only $0.99 a year, but it’s not working for me when I tried it out.
Either there’s a bug, or Go Daddy stopped that code. One can only afford so much, especially when selling at a loss.
