Just a gentle reminder that prices for .com and .net domain names will go up on January 15, 2012. VeriSign, which manages the .com and .net Registry, announced their price increase last year.
Most likely your registrar might have emailed you about it as well. I got some from Moniker, eNom (through a reseller) and Dynadot whom I’m currently using to manage my domain names.
As quoted from their original news bit:
VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced, effective Jan. 15, 2012, an increase in registry domain name fees for .com and .net, per its agreements with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Verisign announced that as of Jan. 15, 2012, the registry fee for .com domain names will increase from $7.34 to $7.85 and that the registry fee for .net domain names will increase from $4.65 to $5.11.
Take note that only VeriSign is increasing their prices. ICANN hasn’t increased their fees yet, but I’ll keep you posted on that.
If you especially have long-term plans for your .com domain names, you might as well renew for a longer term to take advantage of whatever discount you can get. You can also transfer to other registrars who are dangling ultra-low prices (good only for the 1st year) to entice you.
Stay on top of them. And here’s to a prosperous 2012!
